One Theme Version 2.0.. and One Panel

We thought it was about time that we let you know whats coming in the 2.0 release.

Theres a lot to cover here, and don’t forget that we already announced a bunch of additional features for version 2.0 in the previous article: One Theme 2.0 Teaser

So strap yourselves in because there’s a hell of a lot to talk about:

Introducing One Panel

Imagine being able to use the One Theme control panel on any theme you wanted.. We’re making it a reality! As of version 2.0, the One Theme Control Panel will be a stand alone plugin known as “One Panel“. You (or your designers) will be able to create One Panel manageable themes, using a fully documented API that will be freely available to read in the “One Theme Developer Centre“.

If that isn’t exciting enough for you, with a little web development experience you could potentially convert any other theme that takes your fancy (free, or premium) to a “One Panel Capable Theme”. Implementing as few, or as many of the One Panel Features as you like, as for each theme you will be able to add a config file that will instruct One Panel on which features to allow management for.

What about the One Theme Theme?

One Theme will still ship exactly the same as it does now, with the default theme in the zip file. The only difference is that your activation keys will actually be for the use of One Panel, and changing the theme will only potentially change which features are available in One Panel (depending on which features have been implemented by the theme developer).

Will One Panel look different to the old Control Panel?

You betcha! We’ve completely redesigned the user interface to a completely modular, AJAX environment with smart search, and context sensitive help to make using One Panel even more user friendly than it is now!

Will One Theme be developing new themes for One Panel?

Yes, we’ll be opening the “One Theme Marketplace“. Three new official themes will be available in the store for the 2.0 launch; “One Theme Professional“, “One Theme Modern“, and “One Theme Fun!“.  We’re also planning on allowing independent theme developers to list their themes in our marketplace early next year. This will also be a place you can request logo’s, customizations, and other One Panel/Wordpress services. Here’s a preview of two of the three new themes:

One Theme Professional Preview

I’m a reseller. Whats coming for me?

The new “Reseller System“. Shortly after the 2.0 release we are planning on allowing greater flexibility to our resellers, by offering a system that allows them to order extra licenses, choose a number of billing options, and manage the details of each licensee holder while still being able to maintain control over the license.

So there you have it!

As you can probably guess, theres a fair bit of work to be done between now and the launch, which we are initially planning to be somewhere in the middle of December. We are also looking for a BETA testing team, so if you fancy being one of the first to use One Panel, and helping us squash any bugs - please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

The whole team is brimming with excitement right now, and we hope after reading this, you will be too! Also I would like to say a quick thank you to our fantastic forum staff for keeping this under their hats thus far, you guys are doing an excellent job!

I only use just (1) theme so having the flexibility to use the panel with other themes is really not a bonus to me. What’s the point of buying one theme if you are going to use a different theme?

Also, I don’t understand this feature you mentioned “Will One Theme be developing new themes for One Panel?” As you mentioned theming the panel but you reference site themes and layouts in the answer… Are we not speaking about the backend admin panel or are we saying that One Theme and One Panel are two different things and the next theme is called One Panel?

Thanks for all your comments! I will try to answer them as well as I can, but please ask away if there is anything I am not clear on.

George Serradinho: Beta testing will hopefully start on the 7th of December, we’re hoping that it wont be long after that.

Valeri: I am doing an experiment with the development branch now to allow support for multi-byte encoding. We have a few sites that require this so I’m trying to ensure it gets into 2.0.

    Jitender: ^^ Preview coming soon..

    ClubUgly:

I think its great that you enjoy our product so much for what it is! The reason we are doing this really, is that many of our customers have grown to love the power that the One Theme Control Panel gives them, but the theme isn’t suitable for their other blogs. This might be because it is a business site, etc. So its more about giving people the freedom to use the features with other themes.

Are we not speaking about the backend admin panel or are we saying that One Theme and One Panel are two different things and the next theme is called One Panel?

I can see the confusion, if you imagine that One Theme is a theme, and One Panel is the plugin that allows you to manage the features in One Theme. The new themes (One Theme Fun, One Theme Professional, and One Theme Modern) are just different themes that use the One Panel plugin. It’s not about theming the panel.

I love the layouts. The addition of IonCube really killed the update process last time, will v2.0 require a new installation of IonCube or will it just inhabit the existing copy protection setup?

    Hi Roddy

Version 2.0 will still be ionCubed, but we’re rolling out an installer helper which should help to diagnose most installation problems. We’re also offering an ionCube installation service. :)

will V2 still support old themes? I’m using the news one and although I’d love to use these ones for a new blog, I’d want to keep my news theme whilst being able to add new features such as localisation. Possible?

Ohhh, they look fabulous! The search box in the ‘fun’ version is so large… covers so much of the beautiful picture! Hope we can remove it.

Can’t wait till they come out. Thanks for all your work on this!

Yup, the old theme is being reconfigured to work with One Panel.

The search box in the ‘fun’ version is so large…

Hi Brenda, they are still only previews. We are still tweaking the designs :)

    Hi Karl,

If you’re still looking for beta testers, I would love to help test.

Been around WP for many years, and have developed the odd simple theme myself. I do lots of PHP beta testing for many developers.

I have my own dedicated server, with IonCube already running on it. This means I can create as many WP blogs and domains as I need for testing. ;-)

    Cheers

    Richelo
